I will not intentionally denigrate any woman, Senate President God'swill Akpabio apologized to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The Senate President, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, has tendered an apology to Barr. Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District. The Senate President made a remark that was not very welcoming towards Barr. Natasha, who was trying to make her case during the plenary seating a few days ago. The statement had since resulted in a social media fuss. Many viewed Senator Godswill Akpabio's remark as derogatory and condescending, given his position as the head of the National Assembly. 

The social media influence and approach on this issue had compelled the response and apology from the Senate President over the seeming misconstruction of his statement. In his words, "...Even those of us who have been in the Senate for sixteen years are still learning. So, we will do well to continue learning. In the course of talking to one of my distinguished sisters, I told her to speak whenever she is recognized. I made a reference that we are not in a night club where people have to shout above the noise of the music. I learnt that the social media went agog." 

This expression shows the level of cordiality that exists within the Senate Chamber, as the Head of the National Assembly refers to the women in the Senate as sisters. He claimed that his statement was misunderstood and that it was not his intention to condescend on the person of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He also expressed his excitement over the interest generated by Nigerians in the affairs of the chamber, reiterating that he is glad they are connecting with the people directly from the chamber of the National Assembly. He went further to state that he would not intentionally denigrate any woman. He wishes to see women performing and reaching their career zenith, whether in politics or business. This has also been his prayer for his four daughters. On this premise, he tendered a public apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over the miscommunication that happened a few days earlier at the plenary seating.
